ACW construction on schedule
Construction work remains on schedule as the new A. C. Williams Elementary School is set to open for the next school year. Workers are concentrating efforts on the details in the cafeteria. The final walkthrough is scheduled for July 2 and furniture will be delivered and assembled after that time. The building should be ready when teachers report August 17.

School supplies tax exempt Aug. 21-23
In additiion to clothing and shoes costing below $100, school supplies will now be tax exempt during the state's annual tax-free weekend August 21-23. Click here for a list of new tax-exempt items
Board maintains tax rate
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved a budget for the 2009-2010 school year which includes a $313,000 deficit, which will be taken from the $4.5 million fund balance. The Board voted to maintain the current tax rate.
Just named CMS principal
Patrick Just has been named principal of Commerce Middle School by the Commerce ISD Board of Trustees. Just has been assistant principal at the school for the past two years. Prior to coming to Commerce ISD, Just was the principal of the Houston Education Center, an alternative education school, in Greenville ISD for eight years. He has also served as a counselor at Greenville High School for three years. He began his career teaching music and theater at Greenville and North Hopkins High Schools.
