CISD Board of Trustees
Board election May 7
Three incumbents have filed for places on the Commerce ISD Board of Trustees. Kathleen Hooten has filed for Place 1, Gabe Wittkopf has filed for Place 2 and Michael Beane has filed for Place 3.

Beane and Hooten have served one three-year term, while Wittkopf has served two terms. Filing continues through February 19 at the CISD Central Administration Building, 3315 Washington Street, for the May 7 election. Early voting will be held April 25 through May 3 at City Hall, 1119 Alamo Street from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Extended voting hours will take place April 26 and April 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the same location. If incumbents run unopposed the election will be cancelled.

Earlier this month, Board President Ted Oats resigned his position on the Board due to a relocation to the Rockwall area.

Kathleen Hooten, President

Ms. Hooten was elected to the Board in 2013. She and her husband Greg have one son who attends Commerce High School. Ms. Hooten is an educator and she serves on several Boards of Directors including Northeast Texas Children's Museum. She runs the day-to-day operation of the family ranch.

Randy Starks, Vice President

Randy Starks was elected to the Board in 2009. He is a senior sales representative for Allergan Pharmaceutical. He and his wife Karen have a son who is a 2011 graduate of Commerce High School.

Michael Beane

Mr. Beane was elected to the Board in 2013. He is a lifelong Commerce resident. He and his wife Wanda have two children in the district. He owns a local HVAC company.

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks

Dr. Hendricks is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He serves as president of the Texas Council of Faculty Senates.

Etta Herring, Secretary

Ms. Herring was appointed to the Board in July 2012. She has three children who graduated from Commerce schools and she works at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Greenville.

Gabe Wittkopf

Gabe Wittkopf was elected to the CISD Board of Trustees in May 2010. Gabe and his wife Alicia have two children who are students in the District. He is a firefighter for the City of Commerce.
