Commerce schools celebrated Texas Public Schools Week during March 8-12. A. C. Williams Elementary hosted its annual art show and sale featuring student art and items made specifically to sell. The school raised approximately $1200 for their field trip fund. The hallways were filled with parents and family members eager to see their child's artistic talents displayed. Students, or artists in residence, completed art work as their guests toured the building and student guides welcomed visitors to their part of the world.
At CMS, parents and guests visited with teachers about their student's work. Parents at each school were asked to complete a survey which will help administrators identify which instructional areas need improvement.
CES welcomed scores of families to its annual "show-and-tell." Teachers were excited to show their new Promethean boards to parents and students were happy to demonstrate how fun they are to operate.
At CHS, Counselor Doug Fortenberry from Wylie High School told his story of how an accident 25 years ago changed his life. After a motorcycle accident while in college, Fortenberry had to come to grips with his life as a paraplegic. He encouraged students to leave a legacy and to begin by always having a positive attitude.
"No matter what happens to you," he told students, "you can always choose your attitude." |
