Why live and work in Commerce?
The schools feel productive
"My father took a job with the university and moved our family to Commerce in the early 1980s. I graduated from East Texas State University in 1986. I moved back to Commerce in 2003 with my wife and two children. My daughter who is 14 and in the ninth grade has excelled in Commerce schools. Last year she won the UIL Art Smart Regional competition for the fourth year in a row. She also was selected to take the SAT as a seventh grader and her excellent score earned her recognition and entrance into the academically intensive Duke TIP Summer Studies Program in North Carolina. She did not miss a question on the sixth grade math TAKS of the eighth grade English TAKS.

"My son is 10 years old and in the fourth. He is in the PACE program for gifted students and loves it. I expect him to experience the same type of success as his sister.

"As a faculty member in the Curriculum and Instruction Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce, I have a unique opportunity to view Commerce schools in action. Believe it or not, you can get a real feel about the quality of education in a building just by walking the halls during the school day. All four Commerce schools "feel" productive. The students in the classroom are engaged in a variety of activities and those in the hallways are well mannered.

"Commerce ISD has much to be proud of. The district has excellent facilities, scores of superb teachers and caring administrators. I could not be more pleased with the education my two dearly loved children are receiving"

Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Texas A&M University-Commerce
