ACES grant to benefit Class of 2023
02/10/2022

TAMUC and CISD have announced a partnership that presents great opportunities for members of the Commerce High School graduating class of 2023.  The grant, called Attaining College Entrance and Success (ACES Grant), was obtained by TAMUC in hopes of working with high schools in Commerce and Community, providing support for college prep, admission, courses, and internships for a period of three years.  This particular grant will benefit next year's seniors who want to participate.

As a member of the program, students will commit to attending TAMUC before they begin their senior year.  They will receive a TAMUC Lion Swag Pack including blue & gold merch along with a laptop of their very own.

Year One:  During their first year, they will work directly with a Campus Adviser Mentor (CAM) from TAMUC who will visit them weekly at their high school to work through the college prep curriculum provided by TAMUC.

Transition:  During the summer immediately following high school, students will participate in career exploration trips where they will visit various places to see first hand what various jobs entail.

Year Two:   During their first year as a college freshman at TAMUC, they will have the opportunity to live in a dorm with other ACES grant recipients, attend signature courses together, and work with their CAM as they navigate their way through the university experience and find academic success.

Year Three:  During their second year at TAMUC as a college sophomore, the students will continue to thrive under the mentorship of the same CAM and seek out internships and jobs related to their field of study.  Once they land an internship, they   will receive a $1,000 stipend paid by the grant as they exit the program.

Commerce High School will begin the process this spring of notifying current juniors of eligibility status and talking to students who might be interested in such a program.
