Board election May 2

The CISD Board of Trustees election will be held on May 2, 2020 at Commerce City Hall 1119 Alamo St.

Places 4 and 5 are currently held by Dr. Mark Reid and Dr. LaVelle Hendricks.

Early voting begins April 20 through April 28 at City Hall from 8:15 a.m. through 4:45 p.m. Extended hours voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 21 and 23. 

Two places are up for election on the CISD Board of Trustees. Place 4, currently held by Dr. Mark Reid, and Place 5, held by Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, are ending their three-year terms. Filing begins January 15 at the CISD Central Administration Building and ends on February 14. The election will be held May 2 at City Hall.

An individual is eligible to be a candidate for election if the individual:

  • is a United States citizen;
  • is 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
  • has not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisidiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; 
  • has not been finally convicted of a gelony from which the individual has not been pardoned or otherwise released from resulting disabilities;
  • has resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding;
  • is registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected on the date described above and
  • satisfies any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office. 

 

 

CISD Board of Trustees
Kathleen Hooten
Kathleen Hooten, President
Ms. Hooten was elected to the Board in 2013. She and her husband Greg have one son who is a CHS graduate. Ms. Hooten is an educator and she serves on several Boards of Directors including Northeast Texas Children's Museum. She runs the day-to-day operation of the family ranch.
Randy Starks
Randy Starks, Vice President
Randy Starks was elected to the Board in 2009. He is a senior sales representative for Allergan Pharmaceutical. He and his wife Karen have a son who is a 2011 graduate of Commerce High School.
Etta Herring
Etta Herring, Secretary
Ms. Herring was appointed to the Board in July 2012. She has three children who graduated from Commerce schools and she works at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Greenville.

Gabe Wittkopf
Gabe Wittkopf
Gabe Wittkopf was elected to the CISD Board of Trustees in May 2010. Gabe and his wife Alicia have two children who are students in the District. He is a firefighter for the City of Commerce.
LaVelle Hendricks
Dr. LaVelle Hendricks
Dr. Hendricks is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He serves as president of the Texas Council of Faculty Senates.
Mark Reid
Dr. Mark Reid
Dr. Reid is the Associate Dean, College of Education and Human Services and Associate Professor, Secondary Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He and his wife Melinda have two children who attended Commerce schools. 

Board member Dr. Ray Green
Dr. Ray Green
Dr. Green is Dean of the Honors College and Professor of psychology at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He and his wife Sabrina have two children who attend CISD.
